The Story Behind the Sweets

Hey there! Thank you for checking out my first blog post. 

I am Emily, a self taught home baker. My husband and I live in Vermont with our German Shepard, Jace. During the day, you can find me in the HR world. I have lost track of how long I have been baking for fun. After a job change at the beginning of 2023, I have had more time to pour into my passion for baking. I have always volunteered to make the desserts for all the family gatherings or special occasions. This year, I have spent most of my baking time being creative with new recipes and perfecting my royal icing decorating skill. 

My personal Pinterest boards are full of inspiration and I have so many new flavor combinations I want to try. I feel like I have finally mastered my sugar cookie recipe which was rooted by the feedback I received. My taste testers are mostly my family, friends, and more often than not, my co-workers.

Sugar cookies are so universal. There are so many different ways to decorate them and tons of flavors that you can add to make them unique. I would say a majority of my documented baking has been cookies, but I do love to play with flavors while making cupcakes and other yummy treats. I also like to take on new challenges and go outside my comfort zone in the kitchen. Some other delicious goodies I have made include pies, sweet breads, cakes, mini & regular cupcakes, fruity dessert bars and much more. 

Follow along on the journey through batter and icing, successes and fails. I will provide my recipes and offer tips and tricks along the way. Every flavor has a story, and I am here to tell it.
